Getting Organized With Office Depot/See Jane Work: Sakura's Picks!

[See Jane Work Tape Dispenser & Stapler]

Being productive means being organized and working in a clean, pretty environment!  Between meetings, conference calls, working on posts, and even photo shoots- we basically live in our offices similar to when we were in school a couple years ago and all we did was study and pull all-nighters!
The Sorority Secrets currently holds 3 different offices- one in Seattle and two in Arizona.  Last week, Karen showed off our Seattle office (see here) with our new Office Depot's See Jane Work office line items!  This week, Sakura will show you one of our other offices located in Scottsdale, Arizona!  Check out Sakura's picks out of the Office Depot's See Jane Work line and see how we get organized!

One of the biggest work-space no no's is having a messy desk!  You can never be productive with a messy desk and finding something is close to impossible.  There's nothing better than a clean and organized desk, which is why Sakura chose the See Jane Work Desktop Organizer!  It allows you to organize everything from your notebooks to your sticky notes and the best part about it is that it actually makes your desk look prettier! The tan leather goes perfectly with the office so she chose the entire tan leather collection.

Whether you're a student or a full-time working girl, we all have a million things to do every day!  We can't stress enough how important it is to make a to-do list every morning.  According to Sakura, it's the first thing she does when she gets into the office, "Sometimes I just have so much to do that day that I don't even know where to start! By making a to-do list first thing in the morning, it allows me to actually not be so overwhelmed during the day and I get everything I have on my list done."  The See Jane Work to-do list and to-buy lists are just too adorable and it really helps you stay on top of things!

Most of you probably saw these adorable See Jane Work bow paper clips on our Instagram last week (follow us here!)- well, we just can't get enough of them!  They're bright, cute, and makes organization super fun!  The Victor calculator in the picture on the right, is light pink on the outside and not only is it adorable, but by purchasing it, you also help fund breast cancer research!

This adorable polka-dotted See Jane Work padfolio is basically our best friend.  It's perfect for chapter meetings, work meetings, group presentation meetings- every kind of meeting you can think of!  It comes with an adorable matching polka-dotted note pad and you have a folder on the left hand side.

We can all be forgetful sometimes and we just need a little message board like the one above to help us remind us of some things.  The best part about it is that this See Jane Work dry-erase board also happens to be a magnetic board!  It's adorable and convenient!

And last but not least our favorite thing in the office... our Keurig coffee maker!  Making a regular pot of coffee is great, but after a while it gets cold and has that old-taste to it and for us, coffee-drinkers, nothing is better than a fresh cup of coffee!

Thanks to Office Depot's See Jane Work line, we now have an adorable and very well organized office and you can too!  The best part about it all? The Sorority Secrets and Office Depot is giving you $10 for your next $50 purchase! Click here to redeem your coupon!

Check out the entire See Jane Work line here!

Spring Recruitment Tips

As winter break begins to come to a close and those of us in the Northeast prepare to trade in our fur coats and Uggs for flip flops and bikinis-a record number of girls are heading back early to take part in the amazing process that is Spring Sorority Recruitment. Unlike most schools, spring rush at the University of Miami is our pride and joy as most sororities are not allowed to recruit during the fall semester. I can remember it like it was yesterday-anxiously texting my best friend pictures of possible outfits, reading hours on end about the different reputations of the sororities at the University, and nervously biting my nails as everyone in my Rho Gamma group waited outside our first party. This spring will mark the two year anniversary since my freshman recruiting days and now that I am on the other side of things, I’d like to offer a few spring recruitment tips that I wish someone would have told me.

As silly as this tip may sound, I couldn’t even begin to tell you the number of times I would start breathing frantically before, during, and after each recruitment party I attended. As hard as it may seem, relaxation is the key. If you go into recruitment psyching yourself out, chances are you will miss out on the opportunity to truly connect with the sorority women who have worked tirelessly to ensure that this spring recruitment is one of the best. Before entering a party, close your eyes and slowly begin to countdown from five while picturing yourself as a tight roll of paper that is slowly beginning to unwind. By the time you reach zero, you should feel calm and collected. Plus, believe it or not-the ladies on the other side of that door are just as nervous as you are! So walk into that sorority suite with confidence and in turn, you will project confidence and ease everyone’s nerves-including your own!

Although it is not explicitly stated in the dress code they give you prior to recruitment, most girls choose to wear their best pair of heels during the different days of recruitment. While those cute Jessica Simpson’s look amazing on and compliment your outfit, your feet will secretly be dying inside by the time you reach your third party. Standing up for six hours at a time does begin to take a toll-at least it did for me. After a while you start focusing on the pain shooting up the arch of your foot and begin concentrating more and more on walking then at the conversation at hand. Enter my lifesaver: Dr. Scholls for Her! This amazing brand offers a high heel insole that, when put in each heel, offer a whole new world of comfort. What is even better is that you can purchase this product at your local CVS or Walgreens! If you haven’t been introduced to the wonderfulness that is this product-I definitely recommend it; your feet will thank you later!

By definition, a Rho Gamma is a sorority woman who has chosen to disaffiliate herself during recruitment so that she can help facilitate the recruiting process, answer any questions you might have and ultimately aid you in the decision of choosing what sorority is best for you.  During recruitment, my Rho Gamma was like a goddess-she was on call 24/7 in the event we wanted approval for outfits and was so easy going and understanding that talking to her was like talking to a childhood friend. While not all Rho Gamma’s will be like the one I was fortunate to be paired with-they are all there willing, ready, and able to help should you let them. A Rho Gamma has to apply and be interviewed before being chosen so rest assured that you are in great hands as seen by Panhellenic Council. While it may seem strange to open up to a complete stranger about what you’re feeling about certain sororities-your Rho Gamma is there to listen to you and, if you allow her, guide you to the right sorority!

While the urge to be as prepared as you can for recruitment should and will be there, venturing onto sorority ranking sites such as www.greekrank.com is not the way to quench your curious mind. While it may be nice to see what other people are saying about the different sororities you are interested in, you have to keep in mind that most posts are outdated, can be written by the sorority women themselves, and cannot even begin to accurately sum up the heart and soul of every chapter. If you truly are interested in a sorority and want to know more, try visiting their official website, Instagram, Twitter, or  their Facebook page. Each forum is an excellent way to gauge just what that particular sorority is all about!

You’ve chosen the most perfect outfits, you’ve done your (correct!) research, and you’ve watched any and all movies that have to do with sorority recruitment. Whatever the case may be, the one and perhaps most important tip I can leave you with is to have fun! The way recruitment at Miami and many other schools are set up is a system that both benefits you and the sororities. It is designed so that in the end, you do end up where you truly belong. If you have faith in the system like I did, then I can guarantee the rest of your time in college will be spent with the best group of women-whatever letters they may wear! So have fun, laugh a little, and use everything the Panhellenic Council and this article have given you. You only go through recruitment once-make it the best it can possibly be!

See you ladies all on Bid Day!

Be Radiant in 2014!

Emerald was so 2013. According to Pantone, the leading industry corporation of color, Radiant Orchid is 2014’s color of the year.  This is the perfect color to kick off the year; it’s bright, flirty and makes a bold statement!  The best way to incorporate orchid into your wardrobe is with a statement accessory, such as a bag. From a clutch, purse or tote, a colorful bag is the great everyday accessory. The wonderful thing about orchid is that it’s a great color year around. It will brighten up your winter and fall wardrobe and looks great with your colorful spring and summer outfits.

If you’re not ready to commit to a bag, try little pops of orchid in your wardrobe. A pump, dress or even a floral scarf will be an excellent way to show your fashion forward self this year. 2014 is a year of expression. Whether your personal style is preppy or boho chic, orchid will spice up any outfit. But this doesn’t have to stop at your closet doors, bring this captivating tone into your beauty regime! Sephora is starting the year with a large collection of radiant orchid products for your eyes, lips, cheeks and nails. This versatile hue works for most complexions so you will have no trouble finding a shade to compliment your skin tone and personality.

So my challenge to you this year is to wear color. Be bold, be expressive, and be radiant! Radiant Orchid is so 2014 and a marvelous addition to any fashionista’s everyday life. Share with us below your favorite orchid accessory!

TSS Co Founder's Interview: Karen

1. Where do you currently reside and what do you love most about it? "I live in sunny (just joking) Seattle and I love EVERYTHING about it. Seattle offers you everything from Starbucks to hipsters, to the mountains, water, city-life, and so much more. P.S. It doesn't rain as much as people claim…it honestly just sprinkles. No one uses their umbrella! Did I mention we have an amazing football team too? GO SEAHAWKS!"

2. Describe your closet. "Well, I have two closets because I am a shoe and clothes fanatic. My walk-in closets are filled with clothes that are all color coordinated and shoes for days. My style is so eclectic that you see everything from a leopard Forever 21 jumpsuit to sparkly Louboutin heels!"

3. What was your favorite part about being in a sorority? " I absolutely loved choreographing and performing dances for philanthropies. Our dance group (which included Co Founder, Sakura!) called ourselves The Thetawockeez--it was great!"

4. What did sorority life teach you that you applied in the real world? "Sorority life taught me to show people the greatest version of you. You want everyone, whether they are compatible with you or not, to fall in love with who you are. This is one of the biggest lessons that my sorority taught me that I have applied in every aspect of the real world".

5. What are 5 beauty products you can't live without? "Lipgloss (Victoria's Secret lipgloss will always be my fave but I have recently started using Smashbox Lipgloss and it is equally amazing), Bare Minerals Foundation powder, Lilly Lashes, MAC Comfort Creme, and my favorite sets of perfumes that I rotate (Angel by Thierry Muglier, Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, Bright by Versace and La Vie Est Belle by Lancome)".

6. What do you love most about working on TSS? "I love seeing the reaction our readers have to our content. It is so inspiring to watch and hear how much our content improves lives!"

7. What is the best advice you were ever given? "Be careful how you treat people on your way up because you might meet them on your way down". Those are famous words from my mother and they couldn't be more true. Often times in life, people gain a level of success where they forget where they came from or how they got there and choose to mistreat those who were on their journey. Lack of humility and self-entittlement can really hinder your reputation with people who have known you so it's so important to remain humble and avoid burning bridges. After all, you never know, you might see these same people again and the tables could turn where you will need their help".

8. Who's your celebrity style crush? "My STYLIST crush ( I say Stylist crush because we all know celebrities do NOT dress themselves) is Monica Rose. She styles women like the Kardashians and Guiliana Rancic to name a few and I absolutely love every look she puts together. I would love to raid her closet!"

9. What are your top 3 stores you like to shop at? "This is a toughy but I would have to go with TOPSHOP, ZARA, and FOREVER 21. If I can sneak one more in I would say my favorite online store is ASOS".

10. What do you like to do on your day off? No days off here folks! Haha, just joking…sort of. On my day off I like to have friends over where we enjoy a glass of champagne and catch up on reality TV!

11. What else do you do for work? When I am not blogging, I am working full time in medical sales. I love working for a company that is essentially saving and improving lives!

12. What are your interests/passions? I absolutely LOVE party planning. It is my true passion and I really look up to party planners like Colin Cowie and Mindy Weiss. My specialty is candy buffets which I do here and there for my friends and people who reach out to me. I started documenting my parties and party advice here.

Back To School With Office Depot/See Jane Work: Karen's Office Picks!

Want this entire office look? Take this entire collection straight to your shopping cart here!

Back to school means back to getting organized for long nights of studying, interning, working, and everything that goes into being a full-time student. We are all too familiar with the fun that comes with getting reorganized for school. Recently, Victoria, ZTA and former It Girl Intern, took on a position to help more with The Sorority Secrets. With her being a student, we wanted to make our Seattle office accommodating for her so we chose office essentials fit for school. Let's take a tour of all the fun office items we chose via Office Depot's See Jane Work office line:

Organization, organization, ORGANIZATION. That was the theme for our office set-up so we naturally gravitated toward items that would keep us organized. Sometimes non-office related items can make their way into your space, so we loved these bins from See Jane Work--they're great for miscellaneous items that you just want out of the way.

One of the best ways to keep a space organized is to have some sort of a filing system. See Jane Work office supplies are great for that, especially with their file holders and customizable labels. Victoria can separate school work and The Sorority Secrets' work easily with this easy way to file paperwork. We especially loved two things {well, actually three}: one, their black stripe letter tray and white document box because all the work that Victoria completes she can toss it in there and we just know to check there for completed work, and two, See Jane Work's cork board, wall filer, and dry erase board. If you combined all three together, it can be one point of reference for notes, files, and special reminders.

Balancing school and work can be tough, that's why setting little reminders around the office is beyond helpful. Sticky notes and just little notes in general are all of our favorite ways to stay on track. That's why we were so excited when we stumbled across See Jane Work's writing pads, note cards, and magnets {so convenient for your dry erase board or even a cabinet/fridge}. The plain non-magnet note cards and Thank You cards that came with envelopes are awesome too and we used the cute magnet buttons to keep those sort of notes up. For school, nothing beats having the pad folio clipboard, presentation folder, and the faux leather portfolio that See Jane Work offers. We just had to snag these because they're useful for both school and work--very professional and stylish. There's nothing like keeping your papers together in a trendy way!

Of course, an organized desk is a happy desk and makes for one happy student. The festive pencil cup, tape dispenser, highlighters, portfolios, and folders are all helpful tools for Victoria as she tries to stay organized with both school and work.

BONUS: Here is a link to get $10 off your next $50 purchase. Perfect, especially if you want to shop Karen's entire See Jane Work office look here!

Make The Most Of Dreaming Big This 2014 (Madeleine)

The New Year is the best time to set new goals! Most people have difficulty following through with their goals, but one great way to stay on track is to create a “dream board.” Even Oprah swears by it! Essentially, a dream board is a collection of pictures, words, and phrases that will inspire you and remind you daily of your objectives! I was shocked that only a few short months after creating one for myself, I had accomplished over half of the goals I set. Images are so powerful and it’s a great feeling to use them in such a positive way!

Want to make your own dream board? Follow the steps below!

  1. Set your goals – Do you want to land a job or internship? Improve your health or fitness? Learn a new language? Want to save money for that Michael Kors bag you’ve been crushing on forever? Make your goals specific and realistic – don’t try to lose 20 pounds in a month, you’ll drive yourself crazy!
  2. Find compelling images – use magazines, Google images, favorite celebrities,       inspirational quotes, etc.
  3. Make a cute collage including all of the pictures you find on a big poster board.
  4. Hang it somewhere you look everyday – think subliminal messaging!
  5. Go conquer the world!
It can be overwhelming to decide which goals to focus on. Here are some of the ones I chose for my dream board:
  • Take more pictures with a REAL camera and print them out
  • Write more letters
  • Read five books
  • Save $1,000
  • Work out at least 4 times a week
  • Get three A’s spring semester
  • Drink more green smoothies
  • Give more compliments

It’s so simple and rewarding. You’ll be thanking yourself for the daily reminder – it will motivate you to actively work towards your goals. Once you’ve accomplished all of them, save the board as a memento and start a new one!

Nordstrom Topshop In-Store Party

Can you believe it?!  It's already been almost ONE YEAR since the launch of TSS.  The past year has flown by, and we knew that we had to do something fabulous to celebrate.  We teamed up with TOPSHOPxNordstrom at Chandler Fashion Center (near Phoenix, Arizona) for a shopping event & anniversary celebration!

We shopped, we styled, we took pictures, we sipped on lemonade.  It was truly a very special day for us, as we mixed and mingled with our readers.  Oh and did we mention, the clothing from TOPSHOP is adorable!!  We were loving the rompers, statement pieces, and the touch of British style that TOPSHOP incorporates into their pieces.  We're thrilled that Nordstrom has a TOPSHOP department, so we can get our shopping fix!  You can shop online and at select Nordstrom locations for TOPSHOP gear.

Thank you to everyone who came to the event, and of course to our readers for a fantastic first year.  What does the new year have in store??  Well, you'll have to stay tuned to see!

A very special Thank You to Nordstrom, TOPSHOP, and Abbey Kleinsmith
for putting the party together!

DIY Coffee Sleeves (…and They're Reversible!)

Photo  credit: Crafty Staci

Ok, so yesterday we stumbled across the cutest coffee sleeves made by Martta Howard, a Theta from Austin. So many of you wanted to know how to make these cute little coffee sleeves, so Martta was nice enough to share with us the site she used to make them. Below is a tutorial taken straight from Crafty Staci on how to make these convenient, custom coffee sleeves for your next cup of morning brew. For step-by-step pictures, be sure to check out the full post at Crafty Staci.

What you will need:

  1. This coffee sleeve traceable pattern (click here) printed. *Note: Make sure it doesn't scale down to print.
  2. Cotton batting
  3. Iron board cover fabric
  4. Cotton Fabric (your choice of a design)
  5. Elastic hair band (1)
  6. 5/8" buttons (2) *preferably with two holes
  7. 3/4" buttons (2) *preferably with two holes
  8. Needle
  9. Pins (5-7)
  10. Thread
  11. Toothpick (1)
How To Make the Coffee Sleeve

1. Print the coffee cup sleeve pattern.  The pattern should measure 10 3/4″ straight across the top (corner to corner, not on the curve) and 9 1/8″ across the bottom (again, corner to corner).  It’s just barely under 3″ wide. Use “borderless printing” in your print options to make sure the pattern prints full size.

2. Using the coffee cup sleeve pattern cut out the following:
    • One coffee cup sleeve pattern from cotton batting
    • Two coffee cup sleeve patterns from ironing board cover fabric
    • Two coffee cup sleeve patterns from cotton fabric.
Note: Make sure you flip the pattern piece over to cut the second pieces, so they’re opposite the first.

3. Locate the elastic hair band and zigzag stitch through the center (about 3/8" long) then clip through the center (you will only need half of the elastic hair band).
4. Next, layer all the pieces of coffee sleeve fabric starting with the ironing board fabric (face down).
5. Next, layer the cotton fabric (face up).
6. Next, with that same cotton coffee sleeve fabric, place the elastic hair band in the middle of the straight end, with the ends even with the edge of the fabric.
7. Then, layer the other piece of cotton fabric (face down).
8. Then, layer the second piece of ironing board fabric (face up).
9. Last, layer the batting.
10. Pin all the layers into place.  Stitch around the edge with a 1/4” seam, leaving about 2” open on the bottom edge for turning.  Backstitch over the elastic when you reach that point.  Clip the curves and corners.
11. Turn and press, turning in the opening.  Stitch all the way around, close to the edge.
12. Lay the now stitched fabric flat.  Fold both sides in so the edges meet.  Stick a pencil through the elastic and mark the farthest point it will reach without stretching.
13. Stitch a button on each side over the mark, sliding a toothpick under each button.
14. After stitching, remove the toothpicks.  Wrap the thread around under each button a few times before knotting the thread under one of the buttons.
COFFEE SLEEVE COMPLETE!!
Big Sis Tip:  Remember to ask for your drink without a cardboard sleeve and remember to remove your reversible coffee sleeve before you throw away your cup!

The Tillow: Beach Towel+Pillow

It is no surprise we have summer on our minds. We honestly cannot wait to lay on the beach, dig our toes into the sand, and soak up the beautiful sun. But, how many of you have ever been at the beach and piled up sand underneath your towel to create a headrest? Or bunched up clothing for the same purpose? How about, hide your valuables in clothes or a bag when you head to the water hoping no one will steal them or that sand won't get all over them? When you're laying on the beach do you find yourself constantly shifting to make yourself feel comfortable? Well, we think we just stumbled across a solution: The Tillow. If you're wondering what The Tillow is, we wondered ourselves until Katie Everds, one of the Founders of The Tillow (a beach towel plus a pillow), gave us a breakdown on this pretty awesome and convenient product.

Here is what you can expect to receive with The Tillow:
  • Touchscreen sleeve, designed for all smartphones & media devices, so you can switch songs, compile playlists and send messages without risk of damage.
  • Camouflaged and headphone friendly. Camouflaged and water-resistant storage pocket that is safe from curious strangers!
  • Contour foam pillow for maximum cranium comfort. Removable for laundering and sealed with water and mildew-resistant lining.
Ok, so here is the catch: The Tillow is not for sale yet. BUT, you can help bring this product to the market by backing the product here via Kickstarter. The Tillow has one more week to raise $30,000 to jumpstart their business. This project will only be funded if at least $30,000 is pledged by Tuesday, Jan 14, 12:48pm EST.  So far, they have achieved almost 50% of their goal and if you pledge as little as $1, you can bring this useful product into stores nationwide. The cool thing is, the more money you pledge, the more perks you get of the product if it comes to the market. Don't waste anytime and back this product along with us!
