Smoky Eye Perfection

The smoky eye is everywhere... it's one of the biggest makeup trends.  It compliments all skin tones, and it adds an extra element of glamour for those special nights out.  It takes a few steps to perfect the smoky eye look, and today I'm sharing my secrets with the TSS readers!

What you will need:
            1) Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer
            2) Colossal Mascara
            3) Bobbi Brown Bone Eye Shadow
            4) Mac Cork Eye Shadow
            5) Mac Carbon Eye Shadow
            6) Mac Rice Paper Eye Shadow
            7) Mac Retrospeck Eye Shadow
8.) Bobbi Brown Black Gel Eyeliner

Step One:
Apply primer all over the lids and lower lash line. I highly recommend Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer. Your eye makeup will last all day without smudges!
Step Two:
Apply Bobbi Brown Bone to the brow bone of your eye.  Once you're done applying, use Mac Rice Paper on the lid stopping at the crease of your eye.
Step Three:
Apply Mac Cork through the crease of your eye, and extend slightly upward to the middle of the crease of your eye.
Step Four:
Where you have stopped in the middle of your eye with Cork, finish the crease by applying Mac Retrospeck to blend into the Cork.
Step Five:
Use Mac Carbon to accent the corner or your eye, extending it outward.  For a more dramatic look, apply extra of the black Carbon shadow.
Step Six:
Line your lower lashline with Mac Cork, and apply Mac Retrospeck to the inner corner of your eye.
Step Seven:
Apply gel eyeliner and mascara.  Gel eyeliner gives a bold line with intense color.  After that, voila!  You
have the perfect smoky eye!

10 Curl Commandments

If there is anyone who knows a thing or two about curls, it is our It Girl, Marisa Simone. Do you want some nice curls? Or better yet, would you like to maintain them? Well, Marisa dishes with us how to maintain perfect curly hair. Just follow her '10 Curl Commandments' and you will be ready to rock some playful curls!

1. Sleep on a satin pillow case
  • It will reduce dryness and breakage and hold some of the moisture in.
2. Detangle to protect your perfect mane
  • Use a wide tooth comb; never a brush.
3. Limit heat use on your hair
  • Heat pulls out moisture from curls, makes them dry and shapeless.
4. Shampoo less
  • It is not necessary to shampoo your hair every day, try for every other day.
5. Condition, condition, condition!
  • The curlier the hair, the longer it takes for natural oils to travel from the scalp to the ends.
6. Style when wet
  • The tamest your hair will ever be is when it is wet. You will have much more control.
7. Read the ingredients of the products you use
  • Limit products with alcohol in them to avoid that crunchy, ramen noodle look!
8. Leave it alone!
  • Towel or blow drying can cause a bigger mess then just letting your hair dry naturally.
9. Make sure to diffuse
  • If you must blow dry always use a diffuser, the regular nozzle changes your curl pattern.
10. Love your hair no matter what!
  • We always want what we can’t have, so just think about all the girls out there pining for luscious, curly locks!

It Girl Trend Report: Summer Sweet Treat

Popsicles, lemonade, and yummy ice cream sandwiches are just some of the sweet summer accents that we look forward to during this time of the year. There is nothing like some sweet summer treats to cool down a hot summer day, so we turned to our It Girl Interns for their favorites. Avery made our mouths watered when she reminded us how good the frozen bananas at Disneyland are! Lucky for her, (and us!) she discovered that you can enjoy this same delicious treat from Trader Joe's called Gone Bananas. Avery said, "It tastes yummy, curbs your chocolate cravings, is ice cold and's still a fruit so it's sort of a healthy way to go!" Hmm...we're not sure how healthy it is, but we don't mind going with that theory! A classic sweet summer treat that is Cristina's weakness is cookie dough ice cream and we can't blame her because we are guilty of eating it right out of the carton! Cristina isn't the only one who has a love for ice cream; Allie and Victoria love it too!  Victoria chooses to buy it locally at her favorite ice cream shop in Seattle: Molly Moon's. Her favorite flavors to eat there are Honey Lavender or the rich Salted Caramel. While some of our It Girl Interns prefer cold treats, Marisa prefers the delicious snack otherwise known as puppy chow which she loves to easily make with her sorority sisters. Check out the recipe here! Serena also loves to whip up her favorite sweet summer treat which is a smoothie using a pro-biotic rich yogurt drink called Kefir. Serena explained, "By blending Kefir, your favorite fruits, and a little raw Manuka honey, you can have a mouthwatering smoothie that promotes good health with a fraction of the calories!" YUM!

What are some of your favorite sweet summer treats?
