8 Perfect Nail Polish Colors for Recruitment

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Recruitment season is coming up in a flash and it's time to get all the small details in line!  When it comes to nails for recruitment, it's important to keep it neutral with pinks, nudes, and even white.  There are so many different brands and shades of neutral colors that it becomes difficult to pick which one is best for your entire sorority to wear during recruitment!  Well, don't you worry because The Sorority Secrets is here to solve your dilemma!

1. Spaghetti Strap - the perfectly sheer pink
2. Cuppa - a great color for the "matte" nude look
3. Samoan Sand - pinkish-nude color with a glossy finish
4. Pink Cloud - the perfect pink color
5. Baby Love - this color is a mix of white and light pink
6. Vampire is Buff - a great color if you're looking for something in between white & nude!
7. Naked - the perfect nude
8. Lady Like - a subtle shade of purple

What are some other polishes that you would suggest?

Spring Nails {by, Audree}

Help brighten up your outfit this season with the perfect polish! Spring 2014 is all about colorful pastels, vibrant neon, and feminine pinks. This season is all about freshness; keep your nails solid colors to add an extra pop against your outfit.

Visit your local beauty store and stock up on the season’s newest spring shades. My favorite brands are OPI, Essie and Sally Hansen. They are super cheap and have a great variety of colors.

My top three choices from OPI are (pictured left to right): ‘Lucky Lucky Lavender’, ‘I Just Can’t Cope-acabana’, and ‘Kiss Me On My Tulips’.

My top three choices from Essie are:  ‘Resort Fling’, ‘Truth or Flare’, and ‘Dj Play that Song’.

My top three choices from Sally Hansen are: ‘Mint Sprint’, ‘Petal Pusher’, and ‘Peachy Breeze’.

At home manis are great for a quick fix or when you don’t have time to go in, but step up your nail game and try gel polish. Gel lasts 2+ weeks and instantly gives you that straight out of the salon look. Recently I started using an at home gel LED light and my life is now complete! You can purchase lights and polish for under $100 at local beauty supply stores, but check out this portable LED light for only $24.99 at ULTA. What a steal!

Gel polish goes on like regular nail polish and just curate your polish between coats under your light and, viola! You have the perfect manicure for spring!

Holiday Nails {by Cristina}

Its that time of year again... CHRISTMAS! I don’t know about you girl, but Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday. I enjoy everything from decorating the house and tree, to finding the perfect holiday accessories. I want to focus on something that I have noticed a lot of this year, holiday nails! We all love the classic red nails, but today it’s all about making your nails unique for this holiday season!

If you're looking for something classic but glam, look no further. I used Big Apple Red by OPI for a gorgeous red base coat. It's one of my favorites for a classic red hue! Then to add a little holiday feel, I used All Sparkly and Gold by OPI at the base of my nail in a half moon shape.

Hope you love this quick & easy way to add a little "holiday sparkle" to your favorite red nails!

Runway To Reality: NAILED IT by Becca

Runway To Reality: NAILED IT!
New York Fashion Week had tons to offer this year in the beauty category and from Kate Spade to Phillip Lim it’s clear that the future of beauty is nails.  Here are some tips and tricks on how to get the looks gracing the catwalks of NYFW!

The Feather Mani – Start by painting your nails with your favorite color. I chose “It’s Totally Fort Worth It by OPI. While nails are still wet, select a feather and lay it flat on the desired nail. (Feathers can be purchased at your local craft store. I got mine at Michaels for $1.93!!! ) Trim feather to fit nail and finish with top coat and you’ve got a classy and sassy manicure!

The Half Moon Glitter Mani – Inspired by the nails on the Oscar De La Renta Runway at New York Fashion Week, this Half Moon Glitter Mani is sure to add Pizzazz to any dreary day! Start with a base coat of your favorite color. I used Chanel, “Black Satin” and Essie “Blanc”. Next dab glitter polish at the base of the nail in a half moon shape, I used Deborah Lippmann “Happy Birthday” and OPI“ Which is Witch?” Finish with clear top coat then let dry and show the world your sparkle!

Tip: When using glitter polishes, dab the polish instead of painting it on for maximum glitz!

The Fibre Optic Mani – This darker version of the girly, pink glitzy nails shown by Jenny Packham is perfect for fall. Start with a black base coat, I used Chanel, “Black Satin”. Next, dab Fibre Optic Polish from nails inc. London over the entire nail; I used “Mayfair Mews”. Finish with clear top coat and let nails dry for 15 minutes for an out of this world look!

Tip: When using polish with glitter or texture let nails dry for an extra 5 to 10 minutes as the polish will be thicker.

If none of these manicures strike your fancy try one of the shades of the season!
Iridescent Grays – Try Essie "For The Twill of It" or Deborah Lippmann "Wicked Game"
Electric Violets – Marc Jacobs “Ultraviolet”, Zoya “Mira
Orange Reds – OPI "Red My Fortune Cookie", Dior “Trafalgar"

Happy Painting !

It Girl Trend Report: Favorite Nail Polish

Nail polish is like a perfect little accessory that can complete any look.  We are all nail polish fanatics over here at TSS, and couldn't wait to share our favorite summer polish selections with you!

Classic bright pinks & corals are a summer staple color for us.  "OPI Shootout at the O.K. Coral looks good on everyone, and enhances your tan in the summertime," Marisa says.  Similarly, Cristina loves Essie's new summer neon pink color called Bottle Service.  "Fuchsia is my favorite color-- it's super girly, and can also have an edgy feel.  When I think of summer nails, this is my go to" Cristina tells us.  Avery also picked a coral pink shade, called Kerfuffle by Butter.  Avery also adds that this coral tone can really amp up your tan... we couldn't agree more!  In the softer pink family, we love Allie's pick-- Ballet Slippers by Essie.  "I love the clean, natural look of a nude polish.  It's always appropriate for any outfit or occassion," Allie says.  For a family occasion or even a job interview, we think that Ballet Slippers is an excellent choice!

Serena & Victoria are both loving the creative nail art looks this summer.  Serena tells us, "since I'm a nail polish fanatic, it's hard for me to pick one color!  My two favorite brands are Julep and Essie, so I picked one from each brand.  This is Julep in Susie, and Essie in Set in Stones."  We love Serena's glittery fade at the tips of her nails, so pretty!  Victoria agrees that "for a pattern, go bold or go home!"  Her favorite shade, OPI Bubble Bath, makes a great base color.  She then added Sally Hansen Snappy Sorbet & OPI Paint My Moji-toes Red to create a geometric pattern.  Victoria suggests using a toothpick or even tape to help make your geometric patterns come out clean & precise.

What are your favorite summer nail looks?  Any favorite new polishes you think we should try out?  Tell us below, we would love to hear from you!

Spring Polish Picks

Spring is right around the corner, and our nails are ready!  We are loving these creamy pastel shades for nails, and picked our two favorite spring colors to share with you.  Mint (such as our selection from Essie) is one spring trend that we can't wait to start wearing.  And, you can't go wrong with a pastel pink, as seen in our pick from OPI.  If you're a nail painting DIY kind of girl (which we sure are) these white-based shades can be a little trickier to apply.  Slow and steady does it, and keep in mind that 2-3 coats are usually needed for these shades.  Generously apply top coat (we applied 2 coats!) to up the shine factor on cream colors.

Speaking of top coat, thank you Cristina (Arizona State alumni) for sending in a reader's secret about Seche Vite top coat!  It's our favorite top coat too; our co-founder, Ali, swears by it.  Seche Vite dries in 5-10 minutes flat, which is pretty impressive.  Cristina added, "it also leaves a really glossy finish very similar to gel nail polish."  We agree!

What nail color are you excited to wear this spring?  Share your favorite colors below, we would love to discover some new nail polishes!
