Airport Style According to Your Favorite Celebs!

Spring Break is just around the corner! If we have learned anything from our favorite jet-setting celebs, it is that what you wear to the airport is just as important as what you pack. Here is a guide on how to look cool while traveling from our guest bloggers, Jennifer Saul and Stylist, Tannya Bernadette Wardrobe Styling.

The Outfit:

I am a huge fan of comfy pants, but the airplane is not the time to wear sweats or athletic wear. You never know who you will meet! Thankfully there are plenty of nicer joggers in stores right now that will give you the feel of a sweat pant but the look of something more finished.

Next, pick a cute graphic tee in a super soft fabric.

Finish it off with an open cardigan or jacket that will keep you warm if the plane gets cool, this way you can easily shed your layers during security and when you arrive to your final sunny destination.

The Accessories:

DON’T FORGET YOUR SUNNIES! They are key. Especially if you are going on an early morning flight and are makeup free.

If you want to bring a hat, it is best to wear it instead of squish it in your luggage, huge no no.

Sneakers now come in a stylish yet convenient slip on style that can easily be removed for TSA checks. Don’t wear sandals, you’ll regret having to walk barefoot through security, YUCK! I am obsessed with gold sneakers right now.

Get the Look:

1. Cardigan with Fringe Trim, H&M, $34.99

2. Small-Brim Wool Fedora, Forever 21, $22.90

3. Yvette by Toms, Zappos.com or Bloomingdales, $139

4. Amiana Gold Sneakers, Zappos.com, $68

5. Woven Pants, H&M, $19.99

6. Embroidered Cotton T-shirt, Mango, $15.99

Country Music Festival Outfits We Love

Whether its Country Thunder, Watershed, Stage Coach, or even CMA Music Festival, you name it, country music is in the summer air! It doesn’t matter if you live and breathe country or Luke Bryan’s “Sorority Girl” is the only song on your country playlist, we all have a little room for some country. Former TSS Intern, Audree is not the author of her own blog Simply Audree Kate and she is the expert when it comes to country music festival outfits. Therefore, we asked her to give us a breakdown on the perfect pieces to snag for your next concert. Check out her suggestions below!

Outfit 1: American cowgirl outfit

Trade in your middle school jean skirt for a high-waisted acid-wash chambray skater skirt and pair it with a lace bustier or crop top. Accessorize with cute boots, a statement necklace, shades and headband.

Outfit 2: Rocker cowgirl outfit

Edgier modern outfits are a common theme in country music right now and are a great alternative for a casual look! Pair cut offs with a loose tank, cowboy hat, boots and chunky jewelry such as a cuff or a ring.

Outfit 3: Floral cowgirl outfit

My favorite country combination is a floral sundress, leather belt, and boots. Turquoise pairs nicely with every color so don’t be afraid to color block and mix prints!

For my hometown’s summer rodeo I made my outfit! I copied the skirt outline from one of my skirts, sewed the ends and added an elastic band and had a simple skater skirt in a few minutes. Next, I took 1 ½ yards or floral red fabric from a local fabric store and tied a giant bow as a bandeau on my chest. I tucked in the edges in the band and had a super cheap and cute bow bandeau!

Lace, floral and fringe are hot season trends and work perfectly for a country inspired outfit.

Styled From Summer to Fall

With the fall season right around the corner, we're getting super excited for a few of our favorite things... leggings, chunky knit sweaters, and pumpkin spice lattes.  But before we get ahead of ourselves, we're still enjoying the last few moments of summer!  That being said, now is a great time to start shopping for pieces that will carry you into fall.  Um, hello Nordstrom Anniversary Sale & end of season summer sales!  Here are a few key pieces that make an easy transition from now through October.

Jewel Tone Denim
We're loving these J. Brand jeans (on sale at Nordstrom until August 3rd!) in the pretty deep plum hue.  Wear them now with open toe shoes & your favorite tee or tank.  Wear them later with boots and a sweater or cardigan.  Deep colors are surprisingly versatile... try them out with floral print tops or chambray button downs too!

Short Floral Dress
A floral print mini dress in fall-friendly colors (this one also from Nordstrom is perfect, and 50% off) can shift from season to season.  Wear it now with flat sandals, add a denim vest if you want to mix it up.  Wear it come September with ankle booties, tights, and your favorite leather bomber jacket!

Striped Maxi Dress
Stripes are one of our favorite prints... they're in style year-round!  We like to give stripes a nautical feel in the summer months, and an edgier feel come cooler months.  This Vince maxi dress (on sale for 60% off) is a summer staple.  Once fall approaches, maxi dresses can still make a statement!  Think in layers, and your maxi dress transforms into a fabulous long skirt.  Add a long sleeve shirt (sweatshirt or sweater) on top of the dress.  An off shoulder shirt would be especially cute over the Vince dress, revealing the striped straps beneath!  Or, add a button down shirt (worn loose or tied at the waist-- in plaid if you feel daring).  Pair it with booties and a felt hat for an added touch!

Felt Floppy Hat
Speaking of felt hats, a floppy felt hat is a great accessory in both summer & in fall.  We love a simple felt hat (like this one by David & Young) to compliment any outfit.  Wear it now with flowy bohemian tops, and wear it later with just about anything!

Plaid Shirt
Tartan plaids are back for fall, in a big way.  Think classic & sophisticated when styling this year's plaid trend, instead of punk rock.  We love this slightly sheer chiffon plaid blouse from Forever 21.  Pair it with denim shorts or tucked in to a skater skirt for now, and wear it with jeans come fall.  You can even dress it up to turn it into business attire!

Chic For Cheap: Fashion On A Budget

Shopping for quality pieces doesn't mean you need to break the bank.  Often times, it's all about knowing where to look-- and what little details to look for-- that make all the difference.  We're all for finding fabulous pieces at a great price!  Just because something was cheap, doesn't mean you look cheap.  Below, we've compiled our favorite tips for fashion on a budget!

Tip #1: No Labels.
You don't need designer items to look cool.  If something is trendy, buy it for cheap (it's not worth the investment, trust us).  If you're a label lover, save your splurge for something timeless that you will use for years to come.  There are plenty of stylish finds at a great price, and there's no need to overspend on a single item.

When shopping in budget-friendly stores, go with the "no label" rule of thumb.  Look for items without visible branding or labels on the outside.  Same goes for jeans... the less labels on pockets or by the belt loops, the better.  There are plenty of inexpensive jeans out there with no labels on them, that look a whole lot like their designer counterparts.  When it comes to a tee or tank, you can never go wrong with plain & simple.

A Big Don't: knockoff handbags.  Instead of faux, look for a beautiful no-name bag within your budget.  Go for real leather, clean lines, and you guessed it... as little branding on it as possible.  For vegan leather, it should look & feel like the real deal.  Nothing beats quality, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a quality knockoff.  A pretty mystery brand piece is much more stylish, and you'll have people asking "where did you get that?!"  You're creating your own trend!  We love the envelope clutch pictured above.

A Big Do: faux diamond stud earrings.  Go for a sparkly & modestly-sized pair; it's hard for the untrained eye to tell the difference.

Tip #2: The Details.
Ever notice a striped tee, and the stripes don't match up at the seam on the side?  It's those little details that make something either look "cheap" or luxurious.  Not all budget finds pay attention to these details, while many higher-end items do.

If you're buying something with a pattern on it, make sure that everything is in check.  Stripes & plaids should match up at the seams.  Floral patterns shouldn't have big gaps in the pattern in obvious areas (i.e. stomach or chest).  Also with floral patterns, make sure that the flowers are placed in flattering areas.  For example, two big flowers placed symmetrically on either side of your chest looks like, well... awkward!

The solution to this?  Look at what you're buying.  Inspect the side seams, notice the patterns.  Let's say you found a cute striped shirt, and you know that you want a size medium.  Look through all of the mediums on the clothing rack, and find one that looks like it's made the best!  We find many great patterned items at fast-fashion stores like Forever 21... and all it takes is a little careful inspection.

Speaking of seams, make sure they lay flat.  Seams and hemlines should not be bumpy, uneven, or poorly stitched.  Fabrics should feel substantial; not easily torn or snagged.  If the fabric looks like it will 'ball up' in the wash, chances are you're right.  Clothing should have longevity, and not be disposable.

Helpful hint: patterned items are best to be bought in person, and not online, so you can check for these details.

Tip #3: Where To Go.
Fear no store.  You can shop in any-- and we mean any-- store, and usually find something great.  You just need to know where to look, and how to stay true to your personal style.  That cheesy-feeling accessory store in the mall for example; it just might have a fabulous piece of costume jewelry!

We love everything from the sale rack at department stores, to haunts like T.J. Maxx and Marshall's.  Places like Forever 21 can't be beat for trendy items on the cheap.  There are also several stores that offer great coupons, such as Kohl's and Express.  Keep an eye out for pieces you need, and steer clear of anything that doesn't feel like "you".  Just because it's a good price, doesn't mean you need it.

A Big Don't: don't buy something just because it's on sale.  Buy something because you love it.  Even if it's on sale, you love it, but it doesn't fit... don't buy it.  You won't wear it, and you won't feel your best in it if you do.  You may find a name-brand pair of heels for 50% off.  But, they hurt and pinch your toes.  You'll feel (and look) much better by wearing those trusty ankle booties that you already have in your closet instead.

A Big Do: wait for the sale.  Drooling over a full-priced item?  Find out when it's going on sale, and check back later.

Tip #4: Make It Yours.
Often times it's not just about the pieces we buy; it's how we style them once we're wearing them that makes the difference.  Take a blouse from "cute" to "amazing" by adding some layered necklaces & tucking it in to great-fitting jeans.  Find little touches of your personal style to add into your outfits.

Go with your style.  Are you more into a preppy, J. Crew look?  Take that same blouse & jeans-- add a colorful statement necklace, a vintage baseball cap, chic leather flats, and a monogrammed tote bag.  Keep your personal style in mind when on the hunt at budget friendly shops.  No matter the price of an item, you'll always look like a million bucks when you make it your own!

Another style tip that will always make you feel fabulous: confidence.  And by the way, it's free!  So go forth-- rock that t-shirt and jeans with your head held high and a smile on your face.  Dress for yourself, your lifestyle, and what you feel best in!

Getting Glam {with The Stylist LA}

Dress: Caletto Maxi. Earrings: Forever 21 (old) similar here. Lips: Makeup Forever: Aqua RougePhotography: Nikki Closser Photography

Every girl should take glam photos at some point in her life, right?! These were Karen's thoughts exactly as she brainstormed ways to make turning 26 years old memorable. After finding a fabulous photographer in the Seattle area, next came finding the perfect outfits. Karen wasted no time browsing The Stylist LA's closet for some super trendy, photo perfect looks. The Stylist LA is just like your best friend's closet. You can pick up a nice outfit to wear for a day, and then return it! Taking glam photos in dresses that are gorge and you didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars on them for one simple picture is well worth the money if you ask us. Karen opted for a sleek, chic, and sexy look in the Caletto Maxi in black. We love how she paired it with red hot lips from Makeup Forever to go with the glam look.

You just can't go wrong getting glam with The Stylist LA!

Hot Pink {with The Stylist LA}

Dress: c/o The Stylist LA.  Shoes: Steve Madden.  Purse: Saint Laurent.  Sunglasses: Forever 21 (similar here).

With warm weather right around the corner, we welcome the change in season with one of our favorite hues: hot pink!  It's eye-catching, it's bold, it's a statement.  For any occasion, hot pink is always a brilliant choice.

We love the beautiful dress selection from The Stylist LA.  We look forward to sharing both Karen & Sakura's favorite dress finds as well! Be sure to check them out for your next event,
special occasion, or date night!

How to Wear Neon

Skirt: H&M (old, similar here). Tank: Brandy Melville. Denim Vest: Paper Crane (old, similar here). Lips: Sephora. Heels: Forever 21 (old, similar here).
There is just something about wearing neon that has not phased out for us! Neon has been the greatest addition to our closets and adds a level of happiness and flare to anyone's wardrobe. One of our readers, Zenia, asked us the best way to rock neon so it looks more high fashion and less like a walking highlighter {haha}. It Girl, Victoria, is a true neon fashionista. Neon from head to toe is just too much for the eyes, so we suggest contrasting your neon outfit with some neutral colors such as black, ivory, or white like Victoria did in the above outfit. The contrast between neon and neutral colors makes for a more fresh, modern, visually appealing look. Not ready to go full force neon? Then add a pop of neon color to your outfit with a bright shade of lipstick. Neon lips against a soft makeup look like Victoria's let's your face shine with little work (a nice smile like Victoria's always helps too!). Wearing neon is bold, so don't be afraid to be seen and rock what you've got!

What neon ensembles are you loving right now? Hashtag #tssneon to show us your favorite neon look!

Back To School 2013: Free Spirit

Dress: Forever 21 (similar here).  Boots: Tory Burch (here & here). Purse: Prada.

Life is but a bohemian dream, and we're loving It Girl Allie's free-spirited ensemble.  Paisley (an ancient pattern that became popular in contemporary fashion during the 1960's & 1970's... fun fact!) is the perfect print for a flowy boho-inspired dress.  The vintage pattern captures the bohemian mood, and the deeper colors feel fall-season appropriate.  The burgundy lace headband ties together the boho vibe, and those adorable equestrian-inspired Tory Burch boots add a modern touch to the whole outfit.  Adding your own modern take with a boho outfit is always a great idea; it makes it feel current, plus makes it more wearable for daily life (unless you're at a music festival, we wouldn't want to feel like we're wearing a costume).  Plus, we love the rich cognac brown color of the boots; so perfect for fall!

What looks are you excited to try for the fall back to school season?

It Girl Trend Report: My Favorite Sunglasses

We all have those favorite pairs of shades that we always wear in the hot sun. Whether you're at the beach, cruising on the freeway, or taking a stroll around town, your shades are often a style staple and a reflection of you. This week, we asked our It Girls what their favorite sunglasses were and we got exposed to many cool brands to choose from. It was no surprise that half of the girls are obsessed with Ray Bans--we are too! For Victoria, she loves her Ray Bans because "they are very unexpected". "The frame is almost wayfarer style with a fun modern yet old Hollywood twist! The white color attracts attention in the best way! They go with almost anything and never fail to be a fun statement piece for whatever I am wearing". Serena also has a love for the non-traditional Ray Bans as she sports a pretty white-framed Ray Ban style. Serena added, "I picked my white ray bans. I love these because they're an unusual shape so they stand out in a way. Plus, I love how the white looks against my complexion-it accentuates my tan". For Cristina, she opts for the Ray Ban classic aviators which go best with casual outfits. Allie loves her Diane Von Furstenberg sunglasses--we love the square framed lenses that are still trendy right now.

We don't know about you guys, but as much as we love name brand shades, we always worry about one thing: losing them! Avery understands our fears too and so therefore, one of her major weaknesses is buying cheap pairs of sunglasses that look like the real thing! "My go too cheapy places are Forever 21 (naturally) and Urban Outfitters. I love that I can grab a cute pair, throw them on, and if I lose them, hey, I lose them". Our thoughts exactly! Marisa feels the same way with her cool shades from Nordstrom. "These sunglasses are actually only $10 from Nordstrom in the BP section! They are super cheap and fashionable and I love them".

What are your favorite sunglasses to wear? Let us know by leaving a comment or sharing with us on Instagram: @thesororitysecrets.

It Girl Trend Report: Graphic Tee

I am sure you have discovered before that we have an obsession with graphic tees. Graphic Tees are a fashion piece that are timeless; they never go out of style! Our It Girls agreed too so we were curious what their go-to graphic tees were. If there is any store we can count on to have some awesome graphic tees it is Forever 21 and that is where Avery found her super cute, flower-crowned woman graphic tee. Avery said, "I usually pair it with a jean jacket, some white converse, and a fun statement necklace if I'm feelin fancy! It's really easy to just throw it on and go! And it's soft and comfy too!" Another place that sells some really trendy graphic tees is Urban Outfitters! Their "Day of the Dead" inspired graphic tees always catch our eye, and they caught It Girl, Cristina's eye too! Graphic tees are also fun to wear when the graphic is a word. Marisa's favorite graphic tee has a special meaning to it because it represents a part of her heritage. "My brother bought me this shirt when he went to Florence because he said that all the Italian men say "ciao Bella" when an American girl walks by!"--we love it! There is nothing like a cute graphic tee with images and words imprinted on them. Just ask Victoria and Allie with their graphic tee choices! Victoria absolutely loves her graphic tee from Zara sharing that, "The dolman shape of the tee with the tie front makes it dressy enough to pair up with a cute flowy skirt, or tone down for a night on the town with teal high waisted skinnies and black patent heels. Plus, the shirt gives off a mature vibe so you still look put together and not childish. The texture and colors are such a plus, too!"--we agree! Allie's graphic tee comes from an online company we hadn't even heard of called Necessary Clothing. Allie said, "They have really cute affordable stuff that's different from the stores!"--we love new store finds so we'll have to check it out! Our last favorite graphic tee style is sporting a famous person on your front. This has remained a popular fad and Serena just loves her Bob Dylan tank from Brandy Melville. She explained, "I love my Bob Dylan graphic from Brandy Melville! Not only am I a huge fan of John Galt graphics, but Bob Dylan is also one of my favorite artists of all time! I love this tank because I can wear it tucked into shorts in the summer or pair it with leggings and a light weight sweater when it's cooler out".

Are you a fan of graphic tees too? Where are your favorite places to shop for graphic tees?

Summer Style: Orange Crush

Dress: Forever 21 (similar here).  Shoes: Forever 21 (similar here).  Purse: Louis Vuitton.

We're currently crushing on orange this summer, and It Girl Allie shows us how to wear the color in style.  Feminine touches such as bows and a flared skirt make this dress as cute as can be.  Her shoes tie the look together, incorporating both orange and another warm hue-- hot pink.  Hot pink and orange pair nicely to add a color blocked effect to the look.  We love how Allie paired the ensemble with a nude handbag, complimenting the colors in a subtle way.  It's a perfect look for the weekend... date night, brunch with the girls, you name it.  Have a happy Friday, everyone!

Hey Sailor

Photography: aMaes Photography
{On Ali} Blazer: Forever 21 (similar here).  Tank: Forever 21, old.  Shorts: Urban Outfitters.  Necklace: Forever 21 (similar here).  Hat: Amazon.  Sunglasses: Ray Ban.  {On Sakura} Dress: H&M (similar here).  Shoes: Sperry.  {On Karen} Jacket: Forever 21.  Tank: H&M (similar here).  Shoes: Sperry.  Lips: Make Up Forever.  Sunglasses: Jimmy Choo.

Hey there, sailor.  This week, we're getting back to the nautical basics: classic prep, classic Americana.  We're feeling the red, white & blue spirit, topped off with some gold touches and bold stripes.  While we were at it, we decided to have some fun playing up the look with accessories.  Sakura picked an oversized hair bow, and Ali wore her captain hat (yes, she wore it for Halloween one year-- but why not).  Shorts pair nicely with tailored jackets, and short hemlines pair nicely with... Sperrys!  Yes, both Karen & Sakura showed up to our photo shoot rocking the exact same pair of metallic boating shoes.  Great minds think alike!  Another thing we all agree on?  You can't go wrong with all-American preppy style.

Flower Power

Blazer: Skies Are Blue. Tee: Splendid.  Jeans: Rich & SkinnyBelt: Forever 21 (similar here).  Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden (similar here).  Nail Polish: Essie.

Nothing says "spring" quite like floral... or pastels, or lightweight blazers for that matter.  Just the color combo alone on this blazer was enough to make us feel giddy!  It makes a perfect match when paired with these Gladiola color jeans by Rich & Skinny.  The color in the jeans really brings out the pink hues in the floral pattern.  And of course, nail polish sometimes has a way of making the perfect accessory statement with the right outfit.  In this case, our favorite spring polish shade (Mint Candy Apple by Essie) compliments the entire ensemble rather nicely!  We can't wait to wear this outfit on a sunny spring day.
